Additional details for group therapy programs:
The aim of the 10 week group psychological intervention programs is to help you identify problematic responses to your gut condition and subsequent negative feelings associated with it. A further aim of the program is to identify more practical strategies to manage your symptoms. The 10 sessions will provide an introduction to various therapeutic techniques, including: Monitored slow breathing and relaxation, using mindfulness and acceptance to manage your gut condition and associated symptoms, identifying and challenging unhelpful thoughts that may drive your anxiety and depression and/or low self-esteem, problem solving and dealing with worry, and also pain management.

Group program costs: As the groups are undertaken as part of ongoing research and university teaching at the Swinburne Psychology Clinic, the cost of the program is reduced. There is a $350 program fee (plus a $30.00 initial assessment session fee) to participate in the Psychological Intervention Group Programs ($35 per week). Options are available to pay for the group in up to three instalments and this can be done by cash, cheque or credit card. You may be eligible for a Medicare rebate to cover the costs of the group program if you have a referral and a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP for groups) from your general practitioner.
